IVF Treatment in Lahore
IVF (in vitro fertilisation) is a fertility treatment in which eggs are collected from the ovaries, fertilised with sperm in a laboratory, and a resulting embryo may be transferred to the uterus. At Elysian Fertility in Gulberg 2, Lahore, IVF is planned and supervised by Dr. Javaria Siraj, Reproductive Consultant and IVF Specialist.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Javaria Siraj (MBBS, FCPS; fellowship training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi).
What is IVF?
In vitro fertilisation is a form of assisted reproductive technology. Medication helps the ovaries develop several eggs, the eggs are collected in a short procedure, and they are combined with sperm in the laboratory. Embryos that develop are cared for for several days, and a suitable embryo may then be placed in the uterus with the aim of achieving pregnancy.
IVF is one of the most established fertility treatments, but it is not the first step for everyone. Whether it is right for you depends on your history and test results, which Dr. Javaria reviews at a fertility assessment before recommending a plan.
Who may benefit from IVF in Lahore?
IVF may be considered when there is:
- Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, so the egg and sperm cannot meet naturally.
- Ovulation disorders or reduced ovarian reserve, where fewer or irregular eggs are released.
- Male factor infertility, such as low sperm count, movement or shape. This is often combined with ICSI.
- Endometriosis that is affecting fertility. See endometriosis and fertility.
- Unexplained infertility, when tests do not show a clear cause.
- No pregnancy after simpler treatment, such as IUI.
Age matters. Chances per cycle fall as age increases, so an earlier assessment gives you more options.
When should you see an IVF specialist?
General guidance is to seek advice after around a year of trying to conceive. If you are over 35, or have a known condition that can affect fertility such as PCOS, seeing a specialist after about six months is sensible. If you are unsure, a first consultation helps clarify where you stand, and it does not commit you to treatment.
The IVF process step by step
Your plan is always personalised. Not everyone needs every step.
Consultation
Dr. Javaria discusses your history, cycle, general health and goals, and whether IVF may be appropriate.
Fertility Assessment
hormone blood tests, an ultrasound of the ovaries and uterus, and a semen analysis for the male partner, as relevant.
Ovarian Stimulation
medication encourages the ovaries to develop several eggs instead of the single egg of a normal cycle.
Follicular Monitoring
ultrasound scans, and blood tests where needed, track follicle growth and set the timing of the next step. Read about follicular monitoring.
Egg Retrieval
when follicles are ready, eggs are collected in a short procedure, usually under sedation, so you should not feel pain during it.
Fertilization
eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory. Where indicated, ICSI is used, in which a single healthy sperm is injected into an egg.
Embryo Development
fertilised eggs are cared for in the laboratory for several days while embryos are assessed.
Embryo Transfer
a suitable embryo is gently placed in the uterus in a simple procedure.
Pregnancy Test
arranged about two weeks after transfer. Our team supports you whatever the result.
What happens at your first IVF consultation in Lahore?
Your first visit is a relaxed, confidential conversation with plenty of time for questions. Dr. Javaria reviews your history, menstrual cycle and general health, asks what you hope to achieve, and explains which investigations, if any, are a sensible next step. Bring any earlier test reports, ultrasound scans or semen analysis results. They help, but they are not required. Partners are welcome, and you may also come alone for a first visit.
IVF, ICSI and IUI: how they differ
IUI | IVF | ICSI | |
Where fertilization happens | Inside the body | In the laboratory | In the laboratory, by injecting one sperm into an egg |
Egg collection needed | No | Yes | Yes (done as part of IVF) |
Often considered for | Mild male factor, unexplained infertility, ovulation or cervical factors | Blocked tubes, endometriosis, ovarian reserve, unexplained infertility, after IUI | Low sperm count, movement or shape, or low fertilisation in a past IVF cycle |
Level of treatment | Least invasive | More involved | IVF plus an extra laboratory step |
Which option suits you depends on your circumstances. Dr. Javaria explains the choice after your assessment.
Risks, side effects and what to expect
Most people find the injections and monitoring manageable. Egg retrieval is done under sedation, and some cramping or bloating afterwards is common. Possible risks include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), multiple pregnancy, and the emotional strain of treatment. Dr. Javaria discusses these with you before you begin, and your cycle is monitored closely to keep them as low as possible.
Is a “test tube baby” the same as IVF?
Yes. “Test tube baby” is the everyday name for a baby conceived through IVF. Fertilisation takes place in a laboratory dish instead of inside the body, and the embryo is then placed in the uterus, where pregnancy continues as normal. Babies conceived through IVF grow and are born like any other baby. The first IVF baby was born in 1978.
IVF Cost in Lahore, Pakistan: What Affects the Price?
IVF injections typically cost between PKR 25,000 and PKR 35,000 per day, depending on the prescribed medication protocol and brands used.
The total cost of one IVF cycle depends on your individual treatment plan and several factors:
- Medication: The type, dosage, duration and brands of injections prescribed.
- Monitoring: The number of consultations, ultrasound scans and monitoring visits required.
- Additional procedures: Whether ICSI, embryo freezing or genetic testing is needed.
- Other treatment costs: Anesthesia and any repeat embryo transfers.
Because every treatment plan is different, we do not publish a single fixed IVF package price. After your consultation and necessary tests, Dr. Javaria provides a clear written estimate outlining the included services and any additional charges, so you understand the costs before beginning treatment.
We do not offer free IVF cycles.
Book a consultation to discuss your treatment plan and receive a personalized cost estimate.
IVF success rates: what actually matters
There is no single success rate for IVF. Results depend mainly on the woman’s age, the cause of infertility, egg and sperm quality, and embryo quality. Chances per cycle fall with increasing age. Be cautious of any clinic that promises guaranteed results. At your consultation, Dr. Javaria explains realistic chances for your age and situation.
Some things you can influence: starting earlier, treating underlying conditions such as thyroid problems, diabetes or PCOS, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, and following your treatment plan carefully.
How to choose an IVF doctor or centre in Lahore
Look for these signs before you commit:
- A registered specialist. Check the doctor’s PMDC registration.
- Fertility-specific training and experience, not only general gynaecology.
- A willingness to explain options and costs openly, in writing.
- Honest discussion of success by age, with no guarantees.
- A plan tailored to you rather than the same protocol for everyone.
- A team you feel comfortable with.
Questions worth asking any clinic: Who will manage my treatment from start to finish? What does the estimate include and exclude? Which steps are done on-site? What are the risks for someone like me? When would you advise moving to a different treatment?
